Robin Original Batik Paintings by Robin Ford
This is my art form; Painting in wax-resist, or another word is "Batik" paintings.
This is an original Batik painting by Robin Ford; "East is East" This painting is framed and measures 31" x 16" and available for $1850. Here the artist wants to let the viewer Feel the energy in Nature, Not just observe it.
Batik painting involves painting with hot, liquid wax on to fabric. The fabric begins white, and in that state, wax is applied only to the part of the painting that will be 'white' in the end; as above, the clouds were painted first. Next the fabric is dyed in a cold water dye of the lightest color that will be used in the painting. The lightest color is first because all other colors will be dyed on top of the first and each preceding color. Perhaps this sounds a little backwards; well you are right about that! There is a joy in painting this way, however. With each dyeing, the cloth is air-dried and next wax is applied only to the area where that color will be needed in the end. The rest of the fabric continues to dye with each immersion; the colors layer, one on another; and the shades eventually add up to make the darkest color of the painting. Below is a picture of a tjanting tool that I use to apply the hot wax. I also use a brush. The wax is melted out in the last step to leave you with a beautiful batik painting!
